the life of climbing legend Ron Kauk, who, through imagery and inspiring
narration, shares insights and stories of his life of climbing in Yosemite
National Park. As Ron shares his way of life, he strives to awaken us,
in his ingenuous way, to our connection with the natural world and our
responsibility to preserve it.

the stunning work of Director-Cinematographer Sterling Johnson. Every
shot, reveals the stark beauty of Yosemite’s seasonal landscapes,
and places the viewer in the scene. The film is photographed and mastered
in Panasonic 1080i DVCPRO High Definition. This visual experience is simply
breathtaking--a unique work of art, presenting Yosemite in its best light.

become a perfect venue for the work of Jeff Ball, who makes the Native
American cedar flute come alive. With the entire ensemble of various guitars
and keyboards, its sounds are haunting, inspirational, not to be missed.

Following
the success of the video “Yosemite, Ascending Rythmn,
“ which includes a Special Jury Award at the 2000 Banff
Mountain Film Festival, being featured at the 2001 Mountain
Film in Telluride, and the 2001 Graz Mountain Film Festival
in Austria. Sterling Johnson and Ron Kauk, SNOWCREEK CONSORT/MIDNIGHT
LIGHTNING, are pleased to announce the completion of a
new film entitled, "RETURN TO BALANCE - A Climber's
Journey,” photographed in Yosemite National Park,
featuring world-class rock climber, Ron Kauk. The film carries
a strong but subtle environmental message.
Ron
Kauk,
acknowledging the wonderful gifts he has been given, feels
that now, more than ever, it is important to share what his
life of climbing experience has taught him. Through imagery
and occasional narration, Ron relates his insights and stories
of his discoveries in a simple way, showing our relationship
with nature and what he feels it is saying: that we assume
our responsibility to keep balance with ourselves and the
earth that takes care of us all. Striving to awaken all of
us to really see the timeless beauty of Yosemite’s landscapes,
Ron lives to honor and respect this natural cathedral and
relate the profound lessons from nature through the voices
of the wind, the waters, the trees, meadows, rock walls, and
the diamond-studded nights. Raising our awareness is his desire,
and he does just that by telling us in a beautiful way how,
by his simple lifestyle of “just being--on and off the
rocks,” he listens to nature and deeply respects and
honors the earth.
“RETURN TO BALANCE,”
was shot in PANASONIC DVCRO1080i HIGH DEFINITION and features
the music of Native American Cedar Flutist Jeff Ball. The
program is airing in high definition as a PBS pledge program.
The BluRay high definition DVD has just been released and
is available through PBS stations and stores throughout Yosemite
National Park.
"RETURN TO BALANCE"
was honored with special screenings at MountainFilm in Telluride
Colorado and Skywalker Ranch in California. The film was recently
featured at the Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival
in Nevada City, and was honored with "The People's Choice
Award." “Return To Balance” was also presented
on opening night at “Filmfestival/Graz in Graz, Austria.

The director/cinematographer and editor is Emmy Award-winner
Sterling Johnson, therefore promising to bring to the screen
another incredibly beautiful experience, both for the eyes
and for the soul.
